Help With - Food

So many families in our city find the expenses related to food difficult in the best of times; in the last couple of months this stress has become even worse for so many more families. There are families all over our city and beyond who earlier this year could never have imagined that they would be faced with food insecurity in a matter of only weeks!  As we all were looking forward to the end of a long winter and making plans for this spring and coming summer, future plans just stopped in place. I know I don't need to go on but what I want to use this post for is to let those of you who may need some help know who you an turn to here in our own community!

The "New Normal" ???

Well, what a year 2020 is turning out to be, one we will never forget and one that our kids will tell tales of to future generations. But while we are able to one day tell stories of this time, many are still trying to come to terms with this new way of life. It is not easy and for many it is down right scary, if you need any help at all, you can reach out to your extended Eatonville family at anytime :)

The TDSB has so many links at your finger tips to help you get started in finding help where you need it; from online learning to mental health, the website has got you many starting points.

From one parent to another, you know your kids and if you can see that they are having trouble adjusting to the new school norms, reach out to your child's teacher; we are all in this together and this is new and unprecedented for all of us :)

Looking for some online resources, the TDSB website may have what you need. To help you navigate, here are some specific links on the TDSB Website:

Feb 2020 Newsletter

Join us at the next parent council meeting on Tuesday February 25 at 3:30pm in the library. All are invited to attend.

Dance-A-Thon 2020

This years Dance-A-Thon will be a high-energy dance party that will get all of our students up and moving!
Every class will be dancing for around 45 minutes on Friday March 27th.

This is our council's main fundraiser each year and over the past few years the money raised has covered the costs for each class to have a visit from Scientists in School, helped with the costs associated with field trips, and even provide activities for indoor recesses in each classroom. This year we plan to continue to support school initiatives by supporting in-school visits and help in the improvement of technology around our school.

More details will be sent home with students in early March.

Save The Date - Fit Night – Thursday April 2

X-Movement is coming back to Eatonville this year with new sessions to get our students moving during the school day and our families moving together in the evening!

Last spring we held the FREE event for the first time and it was a huge success, kids and adults alike had so much fun! This year we expect that even more of you will want to come out so we have moved the date from June to April, since the end of the school year can get pretty busy for many families.

In addition to the activities provided by X-Movement our council will be holding a Silent Auction that night at the event to help support a much needed update to the school's technology.

If you would like to donate any new items or gift cards that could be included in the auction please contact the school or email our Co-chair Jennifer Alexander at eatonvilleparents@gmail.com

More details to come and our website will also have updated information as it becomes available.

Help ... we need a new cross walk on Renforth!

Help us let the City of Toronto know that our community is in need of a proper crosswalk at Renforth and Sealcove!

At last count over 100 kids cross at this point of Renforth at least twice a day and there is no proper crosswalk under at least a 7 minute walk in each direction. While the speed limit has recently been lowered to 40 KM/Hour, the drivers in the area almost always disregard this and drive much faster. Add to that the congestion that occurs in this area with over 75 cars in the area taking kids to school at both Eatonville and our nearby middle school, Blooordale .... this is a disaster waiting to happen!

Please click on the link below to be taken to our petition which has been started by a concerned local mother who chairs the school councils at both of these schools. The hope is that 500 signatures can be reached by the end of 2019.

Traffic Meeting November 13 at 6:30pm

Traffic!

This is a topic that leaves many of us talking forever about how bad the roads around our school have gotten.

The drop off areas are a nightmare for some and others the walk to school is just too unsafe.

How do we address these issues? That is what we all want to know and that is why our Principal and our Parent Council are joining forces to bring in experts from the City of Toronto to help us find solutions!

We are excited to announce that on the evening of Wednesday November 13 at 6:30 Eatonville will be hosting a Traffic Panel with city staff and our local Councillor, Deputy Mayor Stephen Holyday!

To prepare for this evening Parent Council would like to know exactly what your concerns are so that we can make sure that the meeting is focused on what matters most to the Eatonville community!

Email your concerns to eatonvilleparents@gmail.com OR write out your comments and bring the paper to the school office.

If you do not feel comfortable writing in English please let us know and we will have a council member speak to you about your concerns.

Keep your eyes out as there will be more information in the coming days in the November Newsletter.

Hope to see many of you at the meeting!

Welcome Back !!!

Wow, another summer that just flew, it is so true that as kids get older, time moves faster.
I hope all Eatonville Families had a great break and on behalf of the Parent Council, I say Welcome Back!

With already a week into the school year so much is already happening! Next Thursday is Meet The Teacher Night, a great time to come out and catch up with old friends and to make some new ones before heading out to your child's classroom (you can even feed your family dinner as Pizza will be available for sale rain or shine)!

Feel free to stop by the Parent Council table and come by for a chat! If you are interested in becoming part of the council exec this is a great time to ask your questions.

Also did you know that the school is working with the TDSB to update our outdoor areas?

We will need your help in the coming months and so if you would like to learn more stop by the table and speak to Jennifer, our 2018/19 Co-Chair. She has been sitting in on meetings for months, learning all about the process and how our community can get involved! Come on out and learn what we are doing for our kids!

Early October we will have our first meeting and everyone as always is invited to attend, more information about the date and time is coming shortly; hope to see you all soon!

Have a great week!
